Obituary of John Roger Johnson

John Roger Johnson, 82, of Cambridge, Wisconsin passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, surrounded by loving family. John was born in Maywood, Illinois on November 2, 1931, the son of John A. and Edna E. (Barfknecht) Johnson. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force at Madison Truax Field. John married Marilyn Jean Matson on May 19, 1956. John was a life long member of Willerup UMC and served faithfully in various leadership roles over the last 55 years. He loved singing in the choir and especially enjoyed participating in the Singing Christmas Tree. John was a fur buyer and he loved the fur business and all the people and places associated with it. John was a caring, generous, positive, and giving husband, father, and grandpa. He enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's sports and activities. Rain, snow or health concerns could not keep him away. John leaves a legacy of love and faith and will be dearly missed. Surviving are His Wife: Marilyn Johnson, Cambridge, WI, Children: Brian (Jill) Johnson of Jefferson, WI, Christy Johnson of Orono, MN, Wendy (Harold) Zimmick of Middleton, WI, Vickie (Duane) Lund of Eden Prairie, MN and Tammy (Jason) Pierner of Waunakee, WI. Three sisters: Margaret (Don) Cobleigh, Eleanor (Bill) Sievert and Yvonne (Ken) Hessenauer, Grandchildren: Charis, Caleb, and Connor Zimmick, Abbie, Spencer, and Karlie Lund, Stuart Lien, Tanner, Kaden, and Kennedy Johnson, and Jake and Grace Pierner. John is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Earl, Orville, Laverne, William and an infant brother Donald. The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Willerup Methodist Church, 414 N. Water Street Cambridge, Wisconsin with Rev. Brian Cook officiating. Interment will be in Willerup Methodist Cemetery, Cambridge, WI. Friends may call from 4-7PM on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Willerup United Methodist Church, Cambridge, WI and after 10AM on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Church until the time of the services.
