Obituary of Harry John Gutermuth

Harry John Gutermuth, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek, WI. Harry was born November 24, 1934 in Milroy, PA to Susan and Harry Gutermuth. The family relocated to a home built by his father on Vinnie Ha Ha, in the Town of Koshkonong, south of Fort Atkinson, WI early in his life. After graduating Fort Atkinson High School in 1952, he attended Milton College where he studied business. Harry was a long time tavern owner, beginning with The Red Post Tap in Helenville, WI and later Captain's Cabin (formerly The Dreamland Tavern) in Fort Atkinson, WI. In addition, Harry's career also included positions at Montgomery Ward, UW Whitewater, and he managed Thomas Industries (Moe Light) Credit Union- now Fort Community Credit Union. Harry was an avid reader and spent a great deal of time soaking up as much knowledge as he could. He loved to dance enjoyed classical music, Sci-fi, tennis, chess and happy hour (a good Manhattan) with family and friends. Our Dad was a wonderful handyman knowing just how to build or repair everything, learning from his father and passing it along to his children. Harry married Carol Hallman and together they had 6 children. He loved his family very much and left them with many great memories. After taking an early retirement, Harry and Carol moved to Homasassa, FL where they spent over 20 years of their life. He loved the warm weather. He is survived by Carol Erdmann of Fort Atkinson; his children, Joanne (Gary) Larson, Terrie Endl, Cathy Guthermuth, Roberta Schoenecke, Cheryl (Jerry) Barnett, and Kurt Gutermuth. Harry is also survived by his brother; Robert Gutermuth of Gainesville, FL and his sister Carol Grimes of Homasassa, FL and 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; Harry and Susan Gutermuth and two grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of the "Old" Countryside of Jefferson County, Alden Estates of Jefferson, WI as well as Rainbow Hospice for everything they did to make Harry comfortable for the last several years of his life. A memorial visitation will be held at Nitardy Funeral Home, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI from 12:00pm-2:00pm on Sunday November 16, 2014. Family and friends are welcome to come and share their memories of Harry. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Helenville, WI. The Packers were his team. Packer attire is appropriate.
