Dear Sue and family. Thank you for posting the "Power of Prayer" video. A lot of shared meaning from one of my best teachers. I new Mr. Alvarez as a coach as well. His influence in my life has led me to over 30 years of coaching basketball. The importance of family is truly foremost for us all. It was my privilege to have known him. A gracious, genuine man. (Even though I thought he was a bit crazy taking us through the woods--I was a participant on what I recall was the first ecology camp survival hike in 1973.)

Dear Sue and family,
Our condolences to you and your family. Carlos was a wonderful, dedicated colleague and a great teacher and mentor to our "kids". We loved watching the video (I don't know how he could do that!) and forwarded copies to both Lynn & Kevin. We will keep you in our prayers.

Dear Susan and family,
I send my love and condolences. You have all been in my prayers. Carlos is now wrapped in Eternal Love and Oneness.
I have asked Dave to say a Mass for Carlos and I added the family also. There's not a thing Carlos needs anymore, but for the rest of you, I pray your grieving offers peace, lightness and joyful memories.

Mr. Alvarez was one of those high school teachers that many of us will never forget. As a high-school student, his indoor/outdoor Biology classroom made me more curious and excited about the world around me. I will forever be grateful for his role modeling, wisdom, attention and care. My most sincere condolences to his family and friends. Melissa Sweeney

My sympathy to the Alvarez family for your loss. I had the honor of having Carlos as a teacher for 9th grade biology, I was a manager for him during freshman basketball, and I participated in the Ecology Camp "74 and Survival Hike '75. I always remembered him wearing cowboy boots when teaching. I would occasionally see him around Watertown after retirement and would always talk to me for a few moments. I had just watched his video, "The Power of Prayer", and I would like to personally thank him for praying for me every hour during the Survival hike of '75, as I recall, there were no major incidents that year. Thank you to the Alvarez family for sharing the video.

Thoughts and prayers to the Alvarez family. He was a great teacher, I remember Biology class with him. Who else could get you to eat worm cookies and ant pizza. I was just telling my son on a hike that we were taking all about my Ecology camp and Survival hike trips with Mr. Alvarez. Many fond memories of a great man.

Mr. Alvarez is the reason that I NEVER drank alcohol in high school, and was able to, on graduation day, give him back the penny he gave us the first week of school way back in freshman year. He had given each one of us in Advanced Biology a penny, and challenged us to give it back to him on graduation day, after not drinking at all. His reasoning was sound, as we were losing kids every year to drinking and driving accidents back then. He's the reason that I, at almost 39, have NEVER been drunk. He was great, as a teacher, and I'll always be thankful and grateful to him. God Bless him and his family.

Alvarez Family,
I was a Biology student of Mr. Alvarez in the mid-70's. I was a math geek and science was not my thing. I received the only C of my school career on a test in his class and remember being devastated. He encouraged me and made me try harder. I was then privileged to spend a week with him and Mr. Herbst in northern Wisconsin on survival hike. Again, he had a way about him...his kind teasing drove me on. I found strength and confidence in myself I didn't know possible. I will be forever grateful for all the lessons he taught me and how much stronger and successful I am because of him. I have thought about him often while watching the reality TV show Survivor knowing I had a great teacher. My sympathies are with you as you celebrate his life.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Mr. Alvarez was a wonderful teacher who had a passion for teaching that showed every day. I remained mystified why I joined his Survival Hike, but it was probably because if Mr. Alvarez was leading it, it was bound to be fun and interesting. What a wonderful man.

Carlos Alvarez was my Biology teacher in the late sixties, gave me a C. Twenty years later at my son's parent teacher conference, Carlos told us he was disappointed Jason only got a C that quarter. I reminded him he gave me a C. Yes , he said but Jason is a lot smarter than you. In church, in school, with his family, a man to be admired, I am smart enough to know that! Rest in peace, Carlos.

Carlos was a teacher of mine when I was in A and P. (My favorite teacher of all time). He had such compassion, knowledge, and always had a zest for life. He always said his wife and family came first in his life. He was held in such high regard by all in his class and everyone he knew. His humor was always contagious. (he always said he had so many nylons hanging from his shower he couldn't count any more with all the women in his house. Carlos was SO proud of all of his children and their accomplishments in life). He was a true inspiration to all and I can only hope to achieve what good he has done for all in his life. He has touched so many in life. I will miss him, but know he is not suffering and now will be with God. Rick and I will truly miss this kind, generous family man. Stay strong and be SO proud of the husband and Dad you were blessed to have in life. He will ALWAYS be with you.

Please accept my condolences. I was a student of Carlos, graduating from WHS in 1968. He lead my Chi Ro class in my senior year. I have always had fond memories of him, and am saddened by his passing, but take confidence in the hope provided my Jesus Christ.
(Rev 7:14-17)
I said to him, Sir, you know. And he said to me, These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.
?They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat.
For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
