I am very saddened to hear of Joe Obmascher's passing. He had quite an influence on my days in Whitewater High School and on my subsequent career and life through the Strategy and Tactics club that he initiated and mentored. His commitment on those many Saturdays spent in the then Art Room and the adjoining corridors provide enduring memories that have never left me. Oddly, when I went to university I stopped playing "war games". I later realised that it was as much the atmosphere of camaraderie and companionship, fair-play and sheer enthusiasm for history that Joe created that drew me- as much as the games themselves. The sign of a great teacher, as Joe undoubtedly was, is perhaps best displayed when students do not realise how much they are learning while they are doing so. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this legacy.

Sorry to hear of Mr. Obmascher's passing. I had Mr. O. as a teacher as well as an advisor for the Strategy and Tactics Club. Now, after 30 years and with children of my own, I realize how much time he gave of himself to be at school for those Saturday morning meetings of the club that always seemed to run longer then they were supposed to. I also fondly remember the days of playing Fight In the Skies at Mr. Held's house and Mr. 0. always bringing along the sewing board with the 1"x1" squares to serve as the game board. I always wondered if any sewing got done in that house. Needless to say it instilled an interest in both myself and my brother Chris that we still have today and for which we are both greatful; not to mention keeping us out of trouble when growing up and setting us in the right direction. My thoughts are with you.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I have a lot of memories from his class. I actually can't believe I still remember from his class (10 years ago) that Milwaukee is the most segregated city in America. You'll be missed Mr. O.

I am very saddened to hear of Joe's passing. I have many fond memories of Saturday mornings and the Strategy and Tactics Club. It was a great club and my interest in war games remains to this day. I found it an excellent opportunity to learn more about military history and value the experience very much. Mr. O was always fair, even tempered and patient with his students though his enthusiasm for history, the games and the boys who played was obvious to all. I extend my condolences to his family, friends and former students and fellow teachers. Whitewater High has lost a good man.

Even though I did poorly in his class, it was never because he was a bad teacher. In fact I remember more of what he taught me then most of my other teachers. He is a good man and a great teacher and he will be missed by everyone he taught. I'm so sorry for you lose and I know this isn't how he planned to spend his retirement but he is in a better place and he will always live on in the hearts and minds of everyone he touched.

I remember having Mr. Joe Obmascher for a Geography class at Whitewater High School. We learned a lot, and I remember that we had to fill out all of the Counties in Wisconsin for a test in the class. He retired my senior year, along with Mrs. Patty Jewett, Mrs. Judy Farrell, and Mr. Hugh Gnatzig. It has been a tough week ever since we all received the sad news, my prayers and thoughts will be with his family.

Mr. O was one of the best teachers I ever had. I will remember him for his knowledge, kindness and dry sense of humor. And I can't forget some of the looks he would give the class! The world really has lost a great man. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Mr. O you were such a great man!!! I have many fond memories of you, Jen and I all going into the HS and playing softball all year long up in the upper wrestling room at the old WHS. You taught me a lot and were always very supportive to me and to everyone around us! Your grin always made me chuckle when I would see you out and about the last few years!! You always had something fun or funny to tell me about Jen and the boys. I know how proud you are of them all. Jeanne I want you to know please call me if there is anything Lee or I and my family can do to help you out...the simple things us ladies can't do to anything else a helping hand would do!!
