Dear Barbara,
Reading the news in the morning is usually a joy to me. Today however, there was some sorrow. Finding the obituary of a friend, a playmate, a neighborhood pal of many years ago was no fun.
My name is Wayne Kollath. Phil and I attended school together in Milwaukee from probably 6th grade thru. high school We were very active on the playgrounds and other athletic programs at Rufus King H.S. Phil graduated a semester before I did and from there on our paths parted. Phil joined the Marines and I went onto school. Many years passed before meeting him again - that was by accident. Phil was a mailman by then and his route that day was on the street my Mother lived. By that time I had completed college, spent 2 years in the Army - most in Germany - was back in Milwaukee and teaching Phy. Ed. We met on the street and talked awhile. Then he had to finish his duties.
I didn't see Phil again until many years later when I was coaching Girls basketball - a game vs. the school your daughters attended. Again we talked, good memories but time moved once more. To see the obit on today's paper brought it all back and I had to write to say how sorry I am for your family's loss.
Phil was a good man in my opinion. - full of the dickens and a loyal guy. I shall miss my friend I knew for many years and yet saw so little of. God bless you.
