Obituary of Doris Ann Zimmerman

Doris Ann Zimmerman, age 91, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023.  

She was born on July 8, 1932 in Watertown, WI, the daughter of Clarence and Agnes (Heger) Richter. Doris married Alphonse (“Zim”) Zimmerman on May 13, 1961 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Richwood, WI. They were the parents of two children, Brent & Carla. After graduation from Watertown High School, Doris worked at Merchants National Bank in Watertown. In 1965 she and her husband moved to Fort Atkinson and made that their loving home.  

Doris was a member of St. Jospeh’s Catholic Church, a member of the council of Catholic Women at her church, and the Women’s Club of Fort Atkinson. She was employed at Citizens State Bank and Trust (now Badger Bank) for 30 years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at her church, Young Auditorium, Hoard Historical Museum, Council for Performing Arts, and Fort HealthCare where she served on the Partners Board of Directors. Doris enjoyed refinishing and restoring antique furniture, playing Bridge, gardening and traveling with her husband. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved to support all of her grandchildren in their many activities.  

Doris is survived by her children, Brent (Karen) Zimmerman of Mosinee, WI and Carla (Ronald) VanderMause of Neenah, WI; five grandchildren, Eric (Grace), Kevin (Andrea) Zimmerman and Lauren (Matt) Brooks, Nathan (Hannah) VanderMause and Taylor VanderMause; great-grandchild, Hayden Zimmerman and her sister-in-law, Myrna Richter.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Alphonse; her parents Clarence and Agnes Richter; two brothers, Donald Richter, and C. Joseph Richter; two sisters, Rosanne Richter and Blanche McCallum; brother-in-law, Archie McCallum; and sister-in-law, Lucille “Chuck” Richter. 

Services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00am. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until the time of service. Following the service, burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson, WI.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice or Fort Atkinson Food Pantry. A special Thank You to all of the wonderful staff at Reena Senior Living and Agrace Hospice for their amazing care given to Doris.
