As a professional in the field of historic preservation I will miss J. R. Burrows & Co. as an accurate resource for beautiful products. As a professional friend I will miss knowing that John's smiling face and enthusiastic spirit is no longer on this plane of existence.
I hope to see him on the other side.

Kevin Smith - Grosvenor Wilton
Very sad news, he will be missed as he had a wealth of knowledge about the carpet industry and the historical side of the industry to and he was a very nice person.
Over the years that I have known John and the many times I had meet him he would always make time no matter how busy he was to stop and have a good talk about things he will be sadly missed.

John Burrows was always my go to source for consultation about period details such as carpeting and other interior issues while I served as Chair of the Provincetown Historical Commission. I remember many happy hours of instruction and illumination over a cup of tea at his Rockland home. In Provincetown we usually had dinner when he finished a day of canvassing in preparation for Bear Week, the schedule he worked out until the last detail was perfect. He was especially mindful that some attending without a group of friends might enjoy the company other solo guests; so we devised a series of cultural events and tours to bring people together followed by lunch. Many new friendships were borne that way; his sensitivity and kindness was instrumental in establishing a welcome atmosphere.
He was a connector and he will be greatly missed.

I am really sorry to hear this news. John was always a real nice guy. I feel very fortunate that he allowed me to assist with a number of marionette performances, It's a rare talent to learn how to work those puppets. And he was patient with me when teaching me how to do it. I will always consider myself an assistant puppeteer. When talking to him about Victorian wallpaper, etc. he was so enthusiastic and obviously knowledgeable. I told him it was the sort of unusual, oddball type of career I would have expected from him. Rest In Peace my friend.

As a little 3rd grader, John was the cool older brother type who always teased me when I came to play with Linda, and expanded my world. I remember the puppet shows in the basement on Esterly. I have always had a copy of the game Mille Bornes since then (and played it last night!) to name a couple of the ways that the Burrows family contributed to shaping me. He left in peace. But still...

I knew John's mom before I met him. We bumped into each other in Walgreens in Walgreens at Christmas in 2013 and she told me that John was interested in the Smith Allen house which I was selling. John and Chris took the tour, greeting my cat, Tina, whom they asked if she came with the house. They loved the house, but alas, it would never come to be. I have followed John on Facebook as he purchased and restored Bracket Cottage. I especially enjoyed the adventures of Isabella and more recently, Charlie. My condolences to Marion and your family. John, your talent and love of life will be missed.

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of John Burrows.
I have known John for more than 25 years, our primary connection through the “bear “community in the greater Boston area, as well, as having attended all of the bear week events, except for the first.
John was one of the first to greatly encourage me when I begin to create. He was one of my earliest collectors, snapping up some small, but choice pieces.
Without his enthusiastic response and positive criticisms, I don’t believe I would have gotten as far as I have in my creative endeavors.
I smiled at the mention of him being a silent child, because whenever he and I had an opportunity to talk, it was difficult for either of us to stop chattering away.
He is already missed greatly, and the impact that he had on the communities he adopted and championed is immeasurable and deeply engraved.
