Nancy Schuman

Obituary of Nancy Adele Schuman

Nancy Adele Schuman, 89, of Jefferson, WI passed away peacefully at Alden Estates of Countryside on Friday, April 12, with her daughter by her side. Nancy was born on August 12, 1923 to Thomas Payne and Florence (Mondell) Blodgett on the property her great-grandfather Benjamin Blodgett settled in 1843. She lived her entire life one lot away from the house in which she was born. Her parents preceded her in death. It was the summer of 1947 at a Schweiger Union picnic that she met the love of her life, Robert Schuman. On November 15, 1947 they were married in the parsonage at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. Nancy was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's in February of 1952. She and Robert joined St. John's Lutheran Church (WELS) in Jefferson where they were long time members. Robert preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1993. When Nancy's father passed away, she penned his obituary, in it she wrote, "Pa liked nothing better than, a good day of hunting, a great dog, a lively game of cards, and close neighbors." That is exactly how Nancy lived her life. She loved the outdoors, looking for Indian arrows on her beloved "side hill", listening to her sons and grandson's hunting stories, and until the late stages of her life she was never without a dog by her side. Nancy was a quick wit and had the greatest smile. She loved a good card game. She never passed up the opportunity to trump her opponent's ace and took great pleasure in it! Nancy and Bob were blessed with three children:Tom and his wife Donna of Lake Mills, Dan and his wife Teri of Oregon, WI and Jane and her boyfriend Guy Butler of Jefferson. The absolute pride and joy of her life were her grandchildren; Deven Stevens (A.K.A. Bucky) and her husband Azariah of Appleton, WI, Matthew Schuman, Milwaukee, WI, Celia Schuman, Fort Atkinson, WI and Lukas Schuman, Oregon, WI and one great-grandchild, Madeline Grace Stevens. One of the last words she spoke were about "Bucky Jr." her nickname for Madeline Grace. Nancy will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and long time neighbors. She will be remembered for the good times and the laughter. There is no formal funeral service planned at this time. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. That way we can sit in the sun and talk of good times, just the way she would have loved. Her remains will be placed on her beloved "side hill", the land her ancestors settled all those years ago. The family requests any donations be made to the St. John's Lutheran Christian Day School or to Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills. She was very proud of the fact that all three of her children attended those schools. A very special thank you to the staff of Alden Estates of Countryside, where she spent the last five years of her life, just two and a half miles east of where she was born and raised. Also, thank you to Rainbow Hospice and to Pastor Bartsch of St. John's for some very comforting words and prayers. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
