Obituary of Garth Gregory Shibles

Garth Gregory Shibles, age 50, who had been living in Singapore since 2008, died unexpectedly in Singapore at 1:30 p.m. on May 16, 2013 (12.30 a.m. CT). Garth was a source of happiness for many and will always be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed. Garth was born in Boulder, CO on September 21, 1962, the son of Warren Alton and Patricia (Pell) Shibles. He attended Whitewater schools beginning with kindergarten at Lakeview School and graduating in the class of 1981 from Whitewater High School. He participated in the 3-2 Program with Beloit College, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree from Beloit College, Beloit, WI and with a bachelor of science in Electrical Engineering degree from Washington University in St. Louis in May, 1986. Garth earned a post-graduate degree in science from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1989 and a Master of Arts, International Transactions degree from George Mason University, VA in 1994. From 1991 to 2008 Garth worked as a telecommunications and IT engineer with National Communications Systems, INET, Inc., RMS Technologies (Federal Aviation Administration), EMW Inc. (Sprint Government Systems Division), CDA Inc. (AT&T), MCI Worldcom, Verizon and PepsiCo International Singapore. Garth was also an independent financial advisor and during his time in Singapore, Garth founded Traders Round Table, an educational institution to provide trading and financial knowledge to enable people to reach their financial goals. On November 28, 1998, Garth married Shamala Manikam in Alexandria, VA. They met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia two years earlier while Garth was employed by AT&T to manage the development of the IT and telecommunications network of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Garth enjoyed traveling and learning about different cultures around the world. He loved biking, playing pool, poker, chess, online games, swimming, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, running, good food and music. He was also passionate about trading and investment in the US and global markets and was an NASD-registered independent financial advisor. Surviving are: wife: Shamala (Manikam) Shibles, Singapore and Whitewater, WI; sister: Kirsten Erika (Anthony ) Di Giovanni, Smithtown, NY; brother: Eric Gunther Shibles, Oshkosh, WI; mother: Patricia Pell Shibles Ross, Whitewater, WI. Garth's family circle includes cousins: Daniel (Michelle Sweeney) Fingerhut, Bruce Fingerhut, Johanna Fingerhut; aunt Kay (Thomas) Barton and uncle Vic (Carolyn) Fingerhut, niece Erika Marie DiGiovanni and nephew Anthony John DiGiovanni. Also cousins: Russell Shibles, Mark Shibles and Paul Shibles. Garth was preceded in death by his beloved father, Warren Alton Shibles. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 550 N. Newcomb Street, Whitewater, WI. Friends may call from 10- 11AM on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, WI. Interment will take place in Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater, WI on May 29, 2013.
