Obituary of LaVerne W. Weckler

LaVerne W. Weckler, age 79, passed away at his home on Monday, October 21, 2013 with his wife, 2 faithful cats and family at his side. He was born at home in Oakland Township on August 14, 1934 to George and Eleanor (Brounty) Weckler. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and operated the family farm after his fathers death. On October 13, 1956, LaVerne married Dawn D. Jensen. They continued to farm for two more years before he left farming to work as a mechanic and then as a parts man in the agricultural implement business until retirement. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Community Church, where he served a total of 24 years in positions of Deacon, Treasurer, and President. He was a groundskeeper for the church and took great pride in this work. He was known for his smile and willingness to help. He is survived by his wife Dawn of 57 years, sister Joan (Wm) Cushman of Whitewater, brother-in-law Dale (Shirley) Jensen of Flippin, AR, sisters-in-law: Jackie (Dean Zweifel) Amundson of Whitewater, Jeri (Dehane) Gjertson of Fort Atkinson, and Robin (John) Blackstone of Arlington, TX, Aunt Lucile Draeger of Jefferson, his beloved cats Noah and Connor and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters Katherine (Neil) Oestreich, and Georgia Jean, and nephews Danny Oestreich and Jay Amundson. A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. John's Community Church, Fort Atkinson with Pastor Kevin Butler officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10AM until the time of the service. If desired, memorials may be made to Rainbow Hospice or to St. John's Community Church. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
