Obituary of Kathleen "Peg" Arnold O'Connor

Kathleen �Peg� Arnold O�Connor, 80, passed away on November 6, 2013. Peg was born in Madison, Wisconsin, to John and Florence (Trask) Arnold. She attended Whitewater State Teachers College in Whitewater, Wisconsin after graduating from Madison�s West High School. It was at college that she met her future husband, Henry James �Jim� O�Connor. They were married on December 22, 1951, in Madison. Both planned to finish college in Whitewater, but Uncle Sam drafted Jim in February 1952. That fall, Peg became a true Army wife when she joined Jim at Fort Benning, Georgia. The Georgia tour was the first of eighteen Army assignments for the family throughout the United States and overseas. The final move brought the family back to Whitewater in June 1968. Peg enjoyed golfing and bowling in community leagues with long-time friends. The highlight of her golf game came in 1969 when she scored a hole-in-one on the old 8th hole at Whitewater Country Club. In her later years, Peg turned her sharp mind toward more solitary pursuits such as reading, crosswords and puzzles. Peg was a member of the Whitewater Congregational United Church of Christ where she served as church treasurer for many years and was active in Women�s Fellowship. She is survived by her husband Jim of 61 years; two sons - Mike (Rudy) and Pat (Karen) O�Connor; four grandchildren - Shawn (Tracey) O�Connor, Shanna (Steve) Arthur, Tom O�Connor, and Anna O�Connor; four great-grandchildren; her brother, John Arnold; sister-in-law, Dora �Pat� O�Connor Platner; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings. A memorial service will be held at 11:15AM on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Fairhaven in Whitewater, WI. Private burial services will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Whitewater, WI at a later date. The family wishes to thank Fairhaven Senior Services and Rainbow Hospice Care for their excellent care of Peg in her last years. Donations are welcomed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson�s Research, Rainbow Hospice or the Whitewater Congregational UCC. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, WI is assisting the family.
