Obituary of William Richard Smith

William Richard Smith �March 24st, 1921 William (Bill) Smith, age 92, of Fort Atkinson, WI, passed away on Sunday, November 17th, 2013 at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center, Johnson Creek, Wisconsin. Bill was born in Fairview, Michigan on March 24th, 1921, the son of William and Helen Smith. On December 31th, 1942, Bill married Lillian Holmes. Bill and Lillian lived in Chicago prior to moving to Wautoma, WI. After Lillian�s death, Sept 8th, 1995, Bill moved back to Mio, Michigan. For the past 6 Years Bill has resided in Fort Atkinson, WI. Bill was known for his singing rendition of �Old Man River�. He spoke often of the time he spent in service to our country on Navy ships during WWII and the time he spent at a typesetter for his sister�s newspaper in Michigan. Surviving are his children, Barbara Hummel (Hank) of Muskego, WI, Melvin Smith (Regina) of Downers Grove, IL, Patricia Bieda of Plainfield, IL, Robert Smith of Chicago, IL, Michael Smith (Kassy) of Fort Atkinson and grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Lillian, his sisters Marie and Lillian and his two sons Ronald and William. Visitation will be at Nitardy Funeral Home, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, WI, and Thursday November 21st from 4:00pm � 6:00pm and Friday November 22nd at 9:00am until time of service at 10:00am with luncheon to follow. Burial at Calvary Cemetery in Wautoma, WI. The Nitardy Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sienna Crest staff for guiding him through the last 3 years and Rainbow Hospice staff for making him comfortable at the end of his life.
