Obituary of Odette Marie Ketter

Odette Ketter, age 88, passed away on November 28, 2013 surrounded by family at Saint Mary's Care Center in Madison, WI. Odette was born in Dyersville Iowa on November 13, 1925 to Guy and Mayme (Woestman) Moyer and was an only child. After Dyserville, she moved to Anamosa, IA and then graduated from high school in Hanover, IL. She obtained a nursing degree from Saint Francis School of Nursing in Freeport IL in 1945. While obtaining her degree, she participated in the USPHS Nurse Cadet Corp program. She then moved to Maywood, IL where she earned her RN license while working as the head of the Rheumatoid Fever ward at Chicago Children's Memorial Hospital. Next, she worked at Hines VA Hospital where she met Robert Ketter, her patient and future husband. They married on May 31, 1952 at St. Eulasia Catholic Church in Maywood. Over the next 14 years, she had seven children. She remained in the Chicago area until 1967. In 1967, they moved to Fort Atkinson, where she lived until 2006. She worked for many years as an RN at the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. She was also actively involved in many community activities. As a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, she helped coordinate the annual Mardi Gras Dance and was involved with the Saint Monica Circle Women's group. She was also a founding member of NAIM - a Widow and Widowers Group. She also volunteered at the Senior Center for 20 years, where she assisted the activities coordinator. Odette was a loving wife and devoted mother to her 7 children. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, whom she always put before herself. All are eternally grateful for the guidance and unconditional love that she bestowed upon them. Surviving are: Ken (Christine) Ketter, Greer, SC; Dan (Jody) Ketter, Waunakee, WI; Dave Ketter, Seattle, WA; Diane (Dave) Krause, Fort Atkinson, WI; Janet (Rainer) Hohlbein, Middleton, WI; Jim (Ilene) Ketter, Durango, CO; Sue (Brian) Schmit, Muskego, WI; 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Guy Moyer, father; Mayme Moyer, mother; Robert Ketter, husband; The family would like to extend it's deepest gratitude to the many wonderful and caring staff at St Mary's Care Center, Agrace Hospice Care, and Supportive Independence Options. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Odette's name to Saint Mary's Care Center, 3401 Maple Grove Drive, Madison, WI 53719 or Agrace Hospice Care, 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, December 2, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Friends may call on Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 4-6 PM at Nitardy Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson and after 10:30 on Monday at the church.
