Obituary of Katherine Ann Poutsch

Katherine Poutsch passed away January 10, at home in the Town of Oakland following a three year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born August 22, 1947, in Fort Atkinson to Doris (Lough) and Harlow Poutsch. Upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Kathy taught middle school in Madison for over 30 years, retiring in 2003. Kathy was most comfortable outdoors sailing, skiing, walking in her woods and gardening, but especially with her pets which included her horses and black labs. As an advocate for all creatures big and small, Kathys world included such memorable friends as a white tailed doe with a gimpy leg who lives in the woods and raises her families year after year in the safety of that environment; Phrank the pheasant who thought he was a dog;; and, Wink a one-eyed stray tabby cat who wandered onto the farm and at Kaths intervention, escaped barnyard bullying by moving to Chicago. Kathy is survived by brothers John (Molly Moores), Rancho Santa Fe, CA; and Curt (Robert Leyba), Chicago and Albuquerque, NM. ; three nieces and a nephew. She is further survived by Marion Behling, her dear friend of over 50 years. A celebration of Kathys life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 21, at the First Congregational Church with lunch following. Private graveside services have been held. Special thanks to Dr. Amit Sanyal and the Dean Clinic staff and Rainbow Hospice, especially Sarah and Gretchen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathys name to the University of Wisconsin- Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. The Nitardy Funeral Home assisted the family.
