Obituary of Kathleen Monica Balk

Kathleen Monica Balk, age 80, of Whitewater, WI passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Fairhaven in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Kathleen was born on March 9, 1933, the daughter of Kenneth and Martha (Kowalski) Marsh Sr. Kathleen was a lifelong resident of Palmyra. She graduated from Palmyra High School in 1951. On March 19, 1955, Kathleen married Charles P. Balk. Charles preceded her in death in October of 2001. Kathleen worked as a Nurses Aide at Fort Memorial Hospital for several years. Returning to school in her forties," Kathy" earned her License Practical Nursing License degree from MATC and concluded her nursing career working in private practice for Dr. Donald Bates, a career that spanned almost 40 years! Kathleen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Palmyra, WI and the Palmyra Lioness Club. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading, needlepoint, and cooking. Surviving are: Her children: William (Joan) Balk, Helenville, WI, Robert (Debra) Balk, Eagle, WI, and Lisa (Peter) Griep, Whitewater, WI, Grandchildren: Stephanie (Steve) Berg, Molly Griep, Brooke and Carlee Balk, Great-grandchild: Audrey Berg, Sister: Shirley Murn, Palmyra, WI, Brother: Ken Marsh Jr., Palmyra, WI, and Sister: Liz (Ivan) Bogie, Whitewater, WI. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother-in-law George Murn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at 12:00 PM at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Palmyra, WI with Father Brian Wilk celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Palmyra, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 10AM on Tuesday at the church until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson or to the Palmyra Lioness Club. The Nitardy Funeral home, Whitewater, Wisconsin is assisting the family.
