Obituary of Vernon Herbert Langholff

Vernon "Smokey" Herbert Langholff, age 88, of Fort Atkinson, WI passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin surrounded by his family. Vernon was born in Hebron, Wisconsin on May 30, 1925, the son of William and Barbara (Limberger) Langholff. He attended Fort Atkinson High School. Vernon served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USS Van Buren during WWII. On August 3, 1951, Vernon married Betty Jane Klitzke. Vernon worked as an electrician from 1948 until his retirement in 1986 for Ladish Malt in Jefferson Junction, WI. Vernon was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. He loved his family and fishing. He enjoyed traveling and spending time at the cabin in Park Falls. Surviving are: Two Children: Candace (Tom) Letcher, Milwaukee, WI and Stanley (Cindy) Langholff, Fort Atkinson, WI, Grandchildren: Nicholas, Rachel (Chad) Miller, Michael (Susie) Langholff, Michelle (Justin) Stahl, and Katelyn Langholff, Great-grandchildren: Lexi, Mallory, Brayden, Hannah, Emma, Lacey, and Harper, and Two Sisters-in-Law: Marjorie Langholff, Jefferson, WI and Darlene Langholff, Delavan, WI. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Jane, a son Vernon Jr, and 15 siblings. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 12:00 PM at the St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 301 S. High Street, Fort Atkinson, WI with Rev. Paul Scharrer officiating. Burial will be in the Cold Spring Cemetery, Town of Cold Spring, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 10AM on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the church until the time of the services. Memorials given to the family will be directed to MacArthur Hall Veterans Home where he lived for the last 5 1/2 years. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson, WI is assisting the family.
