Obituary of Lester J. Deck

Lester J. Deck, 96, of Fort Atkinson, passed away at his residence on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Lester was born on April 27, 1917 in Waukesha, Wisconsin to Herman and Wilhelmina (Piontek) Deck. He graduated 1 1/2 years early from High School and served in the Civillian Conservation Corps before receiving his Bachelor's degree from Whitewater Teacher's College. On June 9, 1945, Lester married Barbara Underhill. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2013. He was employed as a chemist and metallurgist at G.W. Borg Corp., Thomas Industries, Creamery Package and Gibbs Manufacturing and Research. Lester was the first person in Whitewater to be listed in Who's Who in America. He enjoyed reading and collecting stamps and coins. Surviving are his children Sheila Denzin and James Deck of Fort Atkinson, Grandchildren; Dawn Denzin, Phoenix, AZ and Darren (Kersten) Denzin, Madison, WI and nieces and nephews. Lester was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his brother, Fred Deck and sister, Betty Cooper, both from Delavan, WI. A private burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, WI. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson, WI.
