Obituary of Sylvia Irene Gerner

Sylvia Irene Gerner, age 91, of Fort Atkinson passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at her home. She was born December 31, 1922 the daughter of Alex and Mary (Gutschenritter) Fickert in Theresa, Wisconsin. Sylvia graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1939. After receiving her teaching certificate from Dodge County Normal School she taught for two years. Sylvia married Willard E. Gerner at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nenno, Wisconsin on July 24, 1945. Willard preceded her in death on July 27, 2007. Together they farmed in the West Bend area until 1955 when they moved to Oakland Township outside Fort Atkinson and continued farming. They owned a large registered Milking Shorthorn Herd and exhibited their show cattle throughout the years in many different states. In 1989 they retired from dairy farming but continued to grain farm in partnership with their son, Jeffrey, for several years thereafter. Sylvia was a member of the Farm Bureau, State and National Milking Shorthorn Association, PDCA, and Christian Women�s Association. She is survived by her children: Jerold E. (Donna) Gerner of Poughkeepsie, New York Eugene W. (Sandra) Gerner of Tucson, Arizona Donna M. (Donald) Damrow of Juneau, Wisconsin Phyllis A. (Patrick) Agnew of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin Jeffrey B. (Monica) Gerner of Fort Atkinson 15 Grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. 2 Sisters: Marie Yogerst of Hartford, Wisconsin, and Faye (Bruno) Landini of Milford, MA Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, a brother: W. Ferdinand Fickert, and a sister: Nadeane Yogerst A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11:30AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson with Father Brian Wilk officiating. Friends may call after 9:30 AM at the church until the time of service. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery.
