Obituary of Paul Edward Pruefer

Paul Edward Pruefer Jr., Age 94, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Paul was in good health with a very sharp mind. He resided at the Blackhawk Senior Residence in Fort Atkinson, where he had many friends. Paul was born in Oakland Center, Wisconsin on January 30, 1920, the son of Paul and Lenora Pruefer Sr. Paul went to school in Oakland Center. During his younger years Paul worked on the family farm. At the age of 18 he went to work for Stoppenbach Meats in Jefferson, WI. Paul became the plant engineer and worked there for almost 50 years, until his retirement at age 66. Paul married Virginia Zeh in 1946. They lived in Cambridge for many years. After retirement, they moved to Lake Waubesa and lived there until Virginia's health started to fail. They then moved in the their daughter Karen and son-in-law Doug in Whitewater, WI. Paul lived there for a couple years after Virginia's death on August 31, 2008. Paul then moved into the Blackhawk Senior Residence where he lived his remaining years. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing at his cottage in Lac Du Flambeau and traveling. He enjoyed his family and had many friends. Paul is survived by two daughters: Laurie (Ronald) Stevens and Karen Knapton, Grandchildren: Tricia (Doug) Bratton, Timothy (Kelly) Stevens, Chad (Katie) Stevens, Heather (Doug) Hahn, and Nicholas Knapton, and Great-grandchildren: Autumn, Izabelle, Mylee, Wyatt, and Kai. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, brother Edwin, sister Ruth, and son-in-law Doug Knapton. Paul will be dearly missed. We thank the Blackhawk Senior Residence and the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital for the excellent care they gave to Paul. He can now rest in heaven with his wife. "From ashes to ashes, dust to dust, we come from the Father and return to His trust." Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 11AM at St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, 413 E. North St., Cambridge, WI with Rev. Russell Kobs officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 9AM on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the church until the time of the service. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Cambridge, WI is assisting the family.
