Obituary of Col. Ronald Robert Wagner

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Ronald Robert Wagner, age 64, of Cambridge, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at his home. Ron was born in Hillsboro, Wisconsin on October 21, 1949, the son of Robert John and Carol Charlotte (Campfield) Wagner. Ron joined the Air Force in 1968. He served tours in Thailand and Germany before separating in 1972, when he joined the Wisconsin Air National Guard. He was commissioned in 1979 and served in recruiting logistics and finance positions with the Guard. He retired from active duty in 2000. Presently, he was Executive Director of Wisconsin National Guard Association, Inc. He also served as president of the National Guard Executive Directors Association and on numerous committees with the National Guard Association of the United States. On December 9, 1972, Ron married Kathleen Giertych in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Ron was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cambridge, Wisconsin, the Madison VFW Post #8483, the Oregon Masonic Lodge #151, and the Tomah, Wisconsin American Legion Post #201. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, and trips to Canada. Ron is survived by his wife; Kathleen Wagner, Cambridge, WI, his children: Matthew (Marion) Wagner, Waconia, MN, Kelly (James Enser) Wagner, Williston, VT, Paul ( Erica McCollum) Wagner, Cambridge, WI, and Christopher Wagner, Cambridge, WI, grandchildren: Adam, Michael, and Sofia Wagner, River Enser, and Brielle Wagner, and siblings: Dewey (Pat) Wagner, Verona, WI, Candis (Gary) Chapman, Friendship, WI, and Rhonda (Duane) Von Haden, Tomah, WI. Ron is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Ron was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 701 W. Water St., Cambridge, WI at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, with Father Francisco Higuera celebrating. Interment with military rites will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tomah, WI. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 208 N. Park St., Cambridge, WI and after 10AM on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the church until the time of the mass.
