Obituary of Marie Alma Carnes

Marie Alma Carnes, age 88, of Fort Atkinson, WI formerly of Hebron, WI, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Black Hawk Senior Residence in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Marie was born in Juneau, Wisconsin on November 19, 1925, the daughter of Herman and Henrietta (Schrank) Kreklow. On July 15, 1944, Marie married Woodrow William Carnes. Woody preceded her in death on October 30, 1991. Marie was an active homemaker and farm wife and she also worked in later years as a secretary for the Fort Atkinson School District. Marie was a life-long member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Cold Spring, WI. She loved spending time with her family and all of her grandchildren. Marie enjoyed quilting, playing cards, doing puzzles, and was a fan of the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. Surviving are: Her Five Sons: Dennis (Theresa) Carnes, Elkhorn, WI, Jeffrey (Eileen Hanch) Carnes, Palmyra, WI, Jerry (Denise Derry) Carnes, Fort Atkinson, WI, Steve (Sheila) Carnes, Jefferson, WI, and Gary (Renee O'Dell) Carnes, DePere, WI, 15 Grandchildren: Kimberly, Kelly, Joseph, Allen, Michael, Trean, Rebecca, Jeffrey, Lisa, Christina, Timothy, Samantha, Nathin, Kristin, and Tia, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and Special Friends: Donna Metzker and Kimberly (Miller) Carnes. She is further survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael, and brothers: David, Willard, and Gerald. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 11:00 AM at the St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, W4863 Carnes Road, Fort Atkinson, WI with Rev. Jeffrey Schallert officiating. Burial will be in the Cold Spring Cemetery, Town of Cold Spring, Wisconsin. Friends may call from 4-8PM on Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson, WI and after 10AM on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the church until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church or to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson, WI.
