Obituary of Van Allen Sturtevant

Van Allen Sturtevant, age 93 passed away in his sleep on October 12, 2014. He was born March 11, 1921 in Darien Township the son of Floyd and Theresa Alna (Malone) Sturtevant. At the age of 2 his family moved to a farm on Six Corners Road where he lived the rest of his life. Van graduated from Whitewater High School in 1939 and attended what is now UW-Whitewater where he played baseball. He played baseball on various teams in Rock County and also Legion ball with the likes of Jack Frawley and Eddie Bennor. Working on the family farm with his father he pursued his passion of registered Holsteins. He was known for the bloodlines he produced during the early years of Artificial Insemination. In 1991 he realized a dream, along with his sister Vivian of having a horse in the Arabian Nationals when Becky Malone (now Huber) placed in the top ten at the Nationals in Albuquerque, NM. Van hunted in the Johnstown area with cousins and neighbors, and also was an avid bowler. He was a member of St. Patrick�s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society. Van was very proud of his Irish Heritage, and also loved the time spent with children of family and friends. He is survived by many cousins, especially Steve (Judy) Malone, Terry (Paula) Malone, and Dan (Kristy) Malone, and an Aunt Geraldine (Malone) Monogue of Janesville. Van was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Vivian, and cousins Wesley Sturtevant, Patsy Hack, Therese Thompson, and John Manogue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 20, 2014 at St. Patrick�s Catholic Church in Whitewater. Friends may call on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Nitardy Funeral Home in Whitewater from 4-7 PM and also on Monday after 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to extend a thank you to the Country Nurses for allowing Van to stay in his own home as he had wished. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Van�s name to Country Nurses or to St. Patrick�s Catholic Church, Whitewater, WI. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, WI is assisting the family.
