Obituary of John J. Donovan

John J. Donovan, 61 of Janesville, WI passed away November 13, 2014 at Agrace Hospice Care in Janesville, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. John was born May 2, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Benson High School, Omaha Nebraska in 1971. John spent his adult life working in the construction industry as a Traveling Superintendent. He worked in 48 states throughout his career, learning and enjoying the history of each area he worked in. Most recently employed for O'Connor Company and OH Griffin of North Carolina. John was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, helping members and making a positive impression on people's lives throughout the United States. When asked why he was still so active, he had a saying: "You can't keep it if you don't give it away." John was 29 years sober. John enjoyed his home, his yard, swimming, his grandchildren, and life. John loved his pets over the years, but his dog Jojo will always be his favorite. February 2008 John married the love of his life, Joan (Zimmerman) Dedolph. Together they traveled, enjoyed their back yard, children, grandchildren and dog. John is survived by his wife: Joan, two children: Jennifer (Mike) Jones of Janesville, WI and John (Traci) Donovan of Fort Calhoun, NE, two step children: Ryan Dedolph and Brittany Dedolph both of Janesville. Six grandchildren: Bailey and Jesse Donovan, Patrick and Brady Jones, Ayden and Aryanah Stowers, Seven brothers and sisters: William, Michaela, Timothy, Thomas, James, Mary and Robert and extended family and friends across the country. John was preceded in death by his sister Cheryl, and his parents William and Wanda Donovan. Friends and relatives may pay their respects at the celebration of his life hosted by his wife. The ceremony will be held at noon on Sunday, November 16 at Italian House 1603 E. Racine Street, Janesville, WI. There will also be a celebration in Omaha, NE at a later date. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, WI assisted the family.
