Obituary of Clyde E. Heberlein

Clyde E Heberlein, age 91, of Cambridge, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at his home. Clyde was born in Cambridge, Wisconsin on August 3, 1923, the son of Earl D. and Martha (Rockney) Heberlein. He was deaf since birth and was taken daily to Doty School in Madison by his mother where he learned to communicate through lip reading and sign language. Later Clyde was integrated into Cambridge schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1942. He was a milk hauler from 1942 - 1966 for the Cambridge Creamery which his father operated, and then worked for the Anonca Wire Company, and StaRite Industries, Inc. For many years Clyde accompanied his father and others to deer camp at the Northwoods Corporation amid the Chequamegon National Forest. He made many trips with friends to northern Wisconsin especially around the Cayuga and Mellen area to fish, relax, and enjoy the outdoors despite not being able to hear a sound. Clyde was a member of the Oakland Cambridge Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Social Lodge Number 245, and the Lake Ripley Country Club. He was a 3 time champion of Midwest Deaf Golfers Association and a MDGA Hall of Fame member. Clyde supported Wisconsin sports but also was a dedicated follower of The Young and Restless. Clyde's parents made certain of his education and also opened him up to the outdoors. As a result he became a remarkable man to know in many ways. He was a fixture in the Cambridge community and will be greatly missed. He is survived by numerous friends and extended family. Funeral Services will be held at 11;00AM on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Oakland Cambridge Presbyterian Church, 313 E. Main Street, Cambridge, WI with Rev. Scott Marrese-Wheeler officiating.
