Obituary of John E. Vergenz

John E. Vergenz Age 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Sienna Crest with his family by his side. He was born on November 20, 1927 in North Prairie, WI, the son of the late Fred and Ruth (Borck) Vergenz Sr. He farmed and then was called into service for the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 serving in Germany. He married Phyllis Giese on October 16, 1954 at St. Mark's Lutheran in Jefferson, WI, Phyllis survives him. He worked at a mink farm until 1961 then he became custodian for the Cambridge school system and later for the Village of Cambridge. John was very proud to be of service to his country in the Unites States Army. He enjoyed attending races, hunting, fishing and trapping. Dancing was his favorite, especially the polka with his wife of 63 years, Phyllis. John and Phyllis raised a family together, survivors include their children: Barbara (Kurtis) Klemp, Fort Atkinson, Dennis (Gloria) Vergenz, Fort Atkinson; three grandchildren: Zachary (Krisy), Lauren (Matt) and Stephanie (Derek); Eight great grandchildren: Chloe, Brayden, Lucy, Payton, Rylie, Aspen, Hazel and Chase. John is further survived by a sister Mildred (Gerald) Freson of Jefferson and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his twin boys Walter and Fred, four brothers: Ervin, Harry, Herbert and Fred Jr. Funeral Services for John will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, 11:00 am at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, Cambridge. Family and friends will be received at a visitation on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4 - 6:00 pm at Nitardy Funeral Home, Cambridge and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until the hour of service. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Jefferson, WI.
