Obituary of Leona Marie Jewell

Leona Marie Jewell, age 72, of Fort Atkinson, WI passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the University Hospital & Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. Leona was born on January 11, 1943, the daughter of Birdell and Esther (Chase) Douglas. She received her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. On August 31, 1963, Leona married Thomas W. Jewell in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Whitewater, WI. Leona was a teacher at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Jefferson and was a reading specialist for the Johnson Creek School District. Leona was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson, WI. Leona's grandchildren were number one in her life. She also enjoyed traveling the world, reading, flower gardening, and shopping. Surviving are: Husband:Thomas W.Jewell, Fort Atkinson, WI, Two Sons: Britt (Laura) Jewell, West Allis, WI and Jeff (Marcy) Jewell, Fort Atkinson, WI, Grandchildren: Taylor and Sydney Jewell, Brother: Rodney (Alyce) Douglas, Beloit, WI, and Sister: Darlene Jaskowiak, Milwaukee, WI. She is further survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Leona was preceded in death by her parents. A Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be held with Father Brian Wilk celebrating. The family extends and invitation to a Celebration of Life for Leona on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 12-3PM in the parish hall at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1660 Endl Blvd, Fort Atkinson, WI. Inurnment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Wisconsin at a later date.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, Madison, WI. The Nitardy Funeral home, Fort Atkinson, WI is assisting the family.
