Obituary of April Melanie Alwin

April Melanie Alwin, age 59, of Whitewater, WI passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at her home in Whitewater, Wisconsin. April was born in Portage, Wisconsin on April 19, 1955, the daughter of Walter and Joann (Robinson) Alwin, she was the 15th of their 16 children. Even though April was one of the youngest of her siblings, she identified early with being a caretaker and began exploring this role early with her brothers, sisters, and parents. April nurtured this capacity into her working career as a counselor for young adults and opened up her home and her heart as a "second mother" to her nieces and nephews in their times of need. Eventually, her true calling was caring for her mother and father, which she did for nearly 20 years. Her caretaker strengths may have come from her mother but equally, from her father, came the love of finding "the deal". She loved adventures with her sisters and brothers finding antiques and the next corvette for their summer fun. April has left us with a lasting legacy of endurance in the face of adversity. In that way she remained true to her mother Joie Babys� admonition to all of her children not to be quitters but rather people of strength and honor. Surviving are: Her Son: Josh (Angela) Schultz, Lake Mills, WI, Grandchildren: Rex, Rafe, and Rowan Schultz, Siblings: Gabrielle Alwin, Whitewater, WI, Penelope Kleinhans, Whitewater, WI, Pamela Fullerton, Hamburg, WI, Deborah (Roy) Rockwell, Whitewater, WI, Dr. Lance (Nancy) Alwin, Baraboo, WI, Brent Alwin, Hebron, WI, Jill (Matt) Simmons, Whitewater, WI, Craig (Patricia) Alwin, Merrill, WI, Dr. Sean (Laura) Alwin, Fort Atkinson, WI, Jeanine Davis, Lansing, MI, Elaine Robinson, Madison, WI, Dennis Sohns, and Lee Sohns. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. April was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, 145 S. Prairie Street, Whitewater, WI with Rev. Susan Bresser officiating. Inurnment will be be in the Cold Spring Cemetery, Town of Cold Spring, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 10-11AM on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the church until the time of the services. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, Wisconsin is assisting the family.
