Vincent Stubbs

Obituary of Vincent F. Stubbs

Vincent F. Stubbs, 96, died peacefully April 12th at the Markesan Resident Home. Vincent was born in Whitewater on August 10th, 1918 to Mary (Kramer) and Clarence Stubbs. On June 7, 1943, he married Sarah Boyd and began farming in Lima Township. Vince retired from farming after 35 years and began a 14 year career in construction. For years, he was active as a 4-H project leader and as a church elder at North Lima Presbyterian Church. After he retired from farming, he and Sarah were able to enjoy many camping adventures with the Wisconsin on Wheels Camping Club. Fishing, gardening, and wood working were favorite hobbies. Grandchildren have fond memories of his competitive spirit as they played cards and dominoes. Even after moving to the Blackhawk Apartments in Whitewater, Vince could be found back at the farm riding the lawn mower or checking the sweet corn crop. During those years, he greatly appreciated time with his apartment neighbors, especially the daily coffee and puzzle times. In 2007, failing health led to a move to the Markesan Resident Home near where daughter Sue lived. During those eight years, Vince made new friends among the residents and staff and looked forward to the Home's outings. The fishing trips were his favorites. Everyone at MRH will miss his cheerful whistle. Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sarah, grandson Joseph Stubbs, his brother Bobby Stubbs, and sisters Bernice Powell, Annabelle Malone, Virginia Statz, and Viola Welch. He is survived by his son Robert Stubbs (Joyce), his daughter Sue Wendt (Russell), his sister Rita Odland (Roland), and his sister-in-law Elizabeth Eachor. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Julie Stubbs (Chris Douglas), Jen Stubbs (Anne Zoellner), Clint Wendt (Suzanne), Olivia Wendt, and Vincent Wendt (Amanda) and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 12:00PM at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 550 N. Newcomb Street, Whitewater, WI. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Whitewater, WI. Visitation will be form 10AM until 12PM on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the funeral home until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the North Lima Presbyterian Church.
