Obituary of Carol Ann Klepps Picard

Carol K. Picard, Prairie Du Sac, WI Carol Ann Klepps Picard, age 75, of Prairie Du Sac, WI, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on May 1, 2015 at the Agrace HospiceCare Center in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Carol was born in Bristol, CT on February 9, 1940, to parents Carl H. and Ann A. (Semrow) Klepps. She graduated from Bristol High School in 1958. On February 14, 1959, Carol married her high school sweetheart, Donald (Roger) Picard of Bristol, and then relocated to the Washington, DC area where they ultimately settled down in Rockville, Maryland and raised two daughters. Carol was preceded in death by Roger on September 4, 1995. To be close to family, Carol retired to scenic Lake Wisconsin in 2007 following a 48-year career with the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC. A highlight of her tenure was serving as Associate Executive Director of the Office of International Affairs, which provided her the opportunity to travel extensively and work alongside prominent leaders in the international scientific community. In her spare time she enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow, cooking, attending fine arts performances, and the companionship of her beloved dog, Bella. Carol was a member of St. John�s Lutheran Church in Prairie Du Sac, where she frequently served as a communion and minister�s assistant. Carol is survived by: Daughters: Julia (David) Thiele of Lodi, WI, Jennifer (Matthew) DeVorak of Somonauk, IL, Grandchildren: Kate and Jack Thiele, Max and Beau DeVorak, Sister: Betty (Keith) Simpson of Eastham, MA, Sister-in-Law Marcia White of Oquossoc, ME, Nieces: Carrie Ann Colligan, Erika Posadas, Andrea (Fred) Wadlington, Jennifer Atwood, Cynthia (Keith) Runge, Nephews: Todd Colligan and Dana (Tamara) White, and several cousins. In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by both parents and her youngest sister, Janet Klepps Posadas. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 14, at 11:00 AM at St. John�s Lutheran Church, 100 Oak Street, Prairie Du Sac, WI. To commemorate the significant chapters in Carol�s life, her ashes will be cast in sites of personal significance in Connecticut, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Carol�s family extends their eternal gratitude to Agrace HospiceCare staff for the loving and compassionate care they bestowed on Carol and them during her time as an Agrace in-patient.
