Obituary of Virginia Ruth Hare

Virginia Ruth (Gray) Hare, 94, of Whitewater, passed away on Friday, May 15th, 2015, at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek. She was born January 12, 1921 in Milton Junction, Wisconsin, to Winfred and Myrtle (Dorn) Gray. Virginia graduated in 1938 from Milton Union High School. After finishing a basic teaching degree from Whitewater Teacher's College in 1940, she taught one room rural schools in Rock and Jefferson counties for the next 16 years. On July 31, 1943, she was married to Wesley Hare of Whitewater. She taught briefly in Whitewater while completeing her Masters of Science degree. She concluded her teaching career at the Hebron School in the Fort Atkinson School System and retired in 1976. During her retirement, she was active as a volunteer at the Whitewater food pantry, the voting polls, the City Library, the Young Auditorium and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Virginia and Wesley loved to travel. They enjoyed several trips to Europe, Australia, Hawaii and across the United States. Her love for her Bridge Group friends and neighbors filled her later years with enjoyment. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley in 2005. She was also preceded by her brother Ralph Gray and his wife Shirley of Milton, and sister-in-law Margaret Hare of Whitewater, and brother-in-law Frank Grelewicz and brother-in-law Joe Rabiola , of Janesville. She is survived by two sons: Dennis (Barbara) Hare of Surprise, AZ/Hayward, WI and Douglas (Penny) Hare of Butternut, WI, a brother Robert (Penny) Gray of Milton, brother-in-law Merlin Hare of Whitewater, sister-in-law Evelyn (Hare) Grelewicz Rabiola of Janesville, and nieces and nephews as well. The family would like to thank the staff at Rainbow Hospice for their care and support for Virginia during the last year. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rainbow Hospice, 1225 Remmel Drive in Johnson Creek. A visitation for Virginia will be held at Nitardy Funeral Home in Whitewater on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 from 1PM to 2PM followed by a memorial service.
