Obituary of Alice Jeanette Quam

Alice Jeanette (Reiner) Quam, age 98 of Edgerton, Wisconsin passed away Wednesday June 17, 2015 at Agrace Hospice Care in Fitchburg, WI. with her daughters at her side. Alice was born at the family home on Clear View Road Cambridge, WI on November 30, 1916 to Albert and Jessie Reiner. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935. She recently celebrated her 80th Cambridge High School class reunion. In 1936 she graduated from the College of Cosmetology in Madison. She worked at and managed several beauty salons before starting and operating her own business, �Alice's Beauty Shop� in Johnson Creek from 1941 thru the war years until 1947. She married Claire Quam of Stoughton on December 30, 1941 by the Christmas tree at Pebble Brook farm, the Reiner family home in Cambridge. Following World War II they managed the Reiner Farm until purchasing and managing their own dairy farm in 1946 near Deerfield where they raised their family of four daughters, Charleen (Lawrence) Janus of Edgerton, Janice (James) Hoiby of Cambridge, Sandra (Thomas) Berge of Milton and Pamela (Richard) Sebrell of Dewitt, Michigan. She took up contract bridge at the age of 72 and was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She was only a few points away from being a life master and continued to study her bridge books even until the age of 96 years. Alice loved to bowl, fish, share family history and travel, visiting countries all over the world. She was a member of� Oakland-Cambridge Presbyterian Church and the O.N.O euchre club of London, WI. She took a great deal of pride in her 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She attended many sports and school activities. Her grandchildren are Lance (Ellen) Hoiby, Paul (Jennifer) Janus, Monica Hughes, Justin Hoiby, Stephanie (Sayed) Selim, Nicholas (Erin) Berge, Aaron (Stephanie) Sebrell, Erica Berge, Jonathon (Lindsay) Hoiby, and Andrea (Jason) McGilvra.� Her great grandchildren are Andrew, Nolen, Cade, Alexis and Julia Hoiby; Addison and Hayden Janus; Taylor and Blake Berge; Mallory, Theo, and Nora Grace Sebrell. Alice is also survived by her sister Helen Reed of Sturgeon Bay, WI, sister in law Evelyn Reiner of Cambridge, and many nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was her family and she welcomed having gatherings at her farm.� Alice leaves us with the blessing of having had her love in our lives. Her beloved husband Claire preceded Alice to eternal life on December 2, 1987. Other family preceding her include parents Albert and Jessie Reiner, sisters Hazel Nitsch and Phyllis Smith, brother Francis Reiner, brothers in law Eugene Smith, Robert Reed, Julian Quam, Eldon Quam, Glen Quam, Ray Bothum, and Jim Little, �sisters in law Gladys Little,�Norma Bothum, Katherine Quam, and Eva Quam. Visitation will be held at Nitardy Funeral Home 208 N Park Street, Cambridge, WI from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday June 28, 2015 and at the Oakland- Cambridge Presbyterian church 313 E. Main St. on Monday June 29 from 10-11 am followed by funeral services and burial at Lake Ripley Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the church after the burial. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to the Oakland � Cambridge Presbyterian Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Agrace Hospice Care�in Fitchburg for the care they gave to Alice.
