Joachim Paul Hohlbein

Obituary of Joachim Alexander Paul Hohlbein

Joachim "Joe" Alexander Paul Hohlbein, age 83,of Fort Atkinson, WI passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at his home. The world was in turmoil with recovery from the Great War-WWI in progress. The 1920's appeared to be on the right track and then ...the Great Depression. As the 1930's began, Joachim Alexander Paul Hohlbein, son of Paul and Johanna was brought into the world in Allemangna-the land of all men- in Dresden, Germany. Another World War was in the making as Joe was living his childhood in the beautiful cultural city of Dresden; along the Elbe River. By the time the war ended in 1945, he survived one of the worst bombings the world had ever seen, while living in Dresden in February 1945. His family found a way to escape The Russian occupation in the late 1940's, where they made their way to Kassel (then West Germany). The greatest blessing of his life happened in November of 1957 when he married his wife Doris. Their first child, Rainer, was born in 1958. With post war recovery and rebuilding in progress, a new life was being saught; and by 1962 the Hohlbein's immigrated to a wonderful town in South Central Wisconsin-Fort Atkinson. After working for Coca-Cola for a few years, having transferred from Kassel to Madison, both Joe and Doris worked for Prospect Farms here in Fort. A lovely baby girl, Monica, was born to them in 1971. After creating his own food sales and marketing firm- Cavalier Foods- and then owning the Northern Inn Liquor operation, he retired in 1977. His retirement years with Doris here in Fort were enjoyable, accented by being able to see his grandchildren excel in the sport he loved throughout life-soccer. His grandsons Jed and Aaron excelled, both playing for our Wisconsin Badgers and then professionally; Jed in Germany and Aaron for Major League Soccer (MLS) Kansas City Wizards. Joe was grateful for and loved being an American, and living in a great Wisconsin community-Fort Atkinson. Surviving are: Wife: Doris Hohlbein, Fort Atkinson, WI, Children: Rainer (Janet) Hohlbein, Middleton, WI, and Monica (Rodger) Siver, Cross Plains, WI, Grandchildren: Jed and Aaron (Mindy) Hohlbein, and Hunter, Megan, and Kayla Siver, Brother: Norbert (Maureen) Hohlbein, Reno, NV, Two Sisters: Barbara (Ken) Wilke, Glen Ellyn, IL, and Tosca Wester, Fort Atkinson, WI, and nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Regine Benson, and a brother Rainer Hohlbein. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 4:80-8:30PM at the Fort Atkinson Club, 211 S. Water Street E., Fort Atkinson, WI.
