Obituary of Jane Estelle Rossing

Jane Estelle Rossing, age 95, of Whitewater, WI died Monday, Nov. 2, 2015 at Hearthstone with her best friend Marion Burrows at her side. Jane was born June 29, 1920 in Walworth County to Margaret (Whittle) Nelson and John E. Nelson II. She lived her early years on a farm outside of Elkhorn. The family then moved to Rockford, IL and Jane graduated from Rockford High School with a debate scholarship to St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. She was a strong member of the debate team and was the college newspaper editor. She received her degree in Philosophy in 1942. While at St. Olaf she met her husband, Robert Rossing, and they were married on Jan. 9, 1943 in Quantico, VA. After the war they moved to Argyle, WI and Robert became a full partner in L.A. Rossing Co., a family business founded by his grandfather. Jane worked alongside her husband at the store until they to moved Whitewater, WI in 1969 where they owned and operated Rossings, Inc. for 17 years. After retiring in 1986, Jane and Robert traveled to many places around the world, spent winters in Arizona, attended elder hostels across the U.S., enjoyed being part of Community of Christ the Servant Church where she was a strong advocate for understanding Jewish Christian relations. Jane was very artistic and created many hand-stitched quilts, did needlepoint, and rosemaling. Whatever she did, she did to perfection. Jane is survived by her daughter, Rosalind (Larry) Krajewski, eight grandchildren, John, Lars, and Erik Wold, Heather and Sonja Larson, and Rachel, Michal, and Avigail of Israel and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister and one brother and her daughter, Margaret Larson, and her son, Daniel Rossing. Rosalind and Larry wish to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hearthstone, who have lovingly cared for Jane over the past five years. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Nitardy Funeral Home and her church. A service will be held on Wed. Nov. 11th, 2015 in the fellowship hall at Fairhaven at 3:00PM.
