Obituary of Joy Ann Borchardt

Joy Ann Borchardt, age 60, of Cambridge, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, peacefully at her home with her husband by her side after a 14-year battle with cancer. Joy was born in Berwyn, Illinois on December 17, 1955, the daughter of Warren Dale and Betty Jane (Maas) Schroeder. She was raised in LaGrange, IL and moved to Kewaunee, WI as a junior and graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1973. She then attended UW Oshkosh where she met her husband, Roger, and graduated with a degree in Education. On October 7, 1978, Joy married Roger Borchardt and in 1981 they moved to Cambridge where they raised their two children, Toni and Michael. After Toni and Michael came along, Joy became a stay at home mother. She was involved in school activities, school board, the community, and her church. As Toni and Mike grew older, she pursued her love of teaching beginning with kindergarten, then middle school, and most recently high school English. Joy is survived by her husband, Roger Borchardt, Cambridge, WI; children, Toni (Matthew) Clemens, Cambridge, WI and Michael Borchardt, Fort Hood, TX; grandchildren, Liam, Isabelle, and Ryan Clemens; two sisters and brother, Jill (Jerry) Hicks, New Berlin, IL, and Jan (Steve) Shaw, Las Vegas, NV, Scott Schroeder, Marietta, GA. Joy had many friends, neighbors and community members whom she cared deeply for. Without the support of the entire community, she would not have been able to face the past 14 years with the strength, dignity and grace that she did. For that, she and her family will be forever grateful. Joy was preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law, Lucy Borchardt. Funeral Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 501 Skogen Road, Cambridge, WI at 12:30 PM, Saturday, January 23, 2016, with Rev. Dick Blomker officiating. Visitation will be from 9AM until 12:30PM on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the church until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to Grace Lutheran Church, Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson, or to Cambridge Foundation Community School Scholarship Fund. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Cambridge, WI is assisting the family.
