My son was on the soccer team at MLC with your son. Though my son left MLC in October, he still considers Zachary to be his friend and was deeply saddened by the news when he heard it last Sunday. He spoke to me this week about what a wonderful person Zachary was, and still is - with his Lord and Savior in heaven. I believe your son was a comfort to my son when he was going through some tough times prior to leaving MLC. You are in my thoughts and prayers and in the thoughts and prayers of many here in Michigan and throughout the WELS. May God be with you.

Dear Dan and Jackie, and the entire Otterstatter family -- all our dear friends in Christ:
Across the miles we share your sorrow and tears. We wish we could be there in person to help you, in a very small way, shoulder this heavy burden that the Lord has permitted into your life.
In our short stay here in Asia, we have also had death touch the lives of our fellow Christians here. A couple of them related how their unbelieving relative had passed away, and there was no hope, no peace -- nothing -- offered at the traditional (Buddhist) funeral.
But you, at the end of this Easter season, will place Zach's body and soul into the care of Him who created him, into the hands of the One who still has holes in his hands. Your son is eternally safe. And his joy will never end. Everyone else offers nothing; Christ Jesus gives everything through his resurrection from the dead.
Our prayer for you all is that in the difficult days ahead you may find comfort in the unfailing promises of our gracious God He alone can set our hearts at rest, and through his Word he will do it.
As brothers and sisters in Christ we love you, hurt with you, and keep you in our prayers.
Keith and Liz Wessel, and family

Dear Moyle Family,
Although you do not know me, I am a WELS member from Lafayette, Indiana (Peace Lutheran Church-Kokomo, IN), and know members of your extended family (Eric Becker and Mike Otterstatter). I want to express my deepest sympathies to your family in this time of great loss. What a comfort it is to know that Zachary is now in the arms of our Savior in heaven. Although it is very difficult for those left behind we take comfort in knowing that Zachary was a child of God. May the Lord comfort you in the days to come with the ever-present knowledge that He is by your side at all times. Psalm 18:2 reminds us, "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge; He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." May the Lord keep all of you in His loving care and wrap His arms around you.

Dan, Jacki, and Caitlin,
My heart hurt today when I received the news from Kelly Hall. The relationships we built while at Tulsa Lutheran School gave me only a small glimpse of Zach, but there was one thing that I knew without a doubt. This young man new his Savior and was confident in his eternity. Though his passing came too early, we know that Zach is sitting at the feet of Jesus. My prayer is that the hands of friends and family embrace you with the comfort and love of our Lord and Savior. Please know the entire family will be in our prayers. I will add this to the prayer list of my school, Word of Life Lutheran School, here in St. Louis. Diana, Callie, Preston, and I will keep all of you in our prayers.
In Love and Sympathy,
David Robinson - former principal and friend

Dear Jackie and family,
Carl and I wish to express our deepest sympathy at the death of your beloved son, Zachary. Children are the most precious blessings that are given to us from the Father in heaven. It so hard to understand when He calls them back to Himself in a sudden and unexpected way. I know you find your comfort in the many promises of Scripture which tell us that we will be together again in heaven. Zachary is in the presence of Jesus seeing Him face to face. He is with his grandfather who I am sure is hugging him close. All these images have a certain comfort but the pain of losing a child is hard to bear. Please remember, Jackie that you are not alone. You have friends and family who are praying for you and share your sorrow. Jesus knows the hurt of losing someone you love and in Him you will find strength and comfort.
While we were in Africa 12 years ago, I found 2 passages in Isaiah that have given me endless comfort. They are in Isaiah 57:1&2. I hope that you find comfort in these words too.
May Jesus hug you and yours close to Himself.
In our risen Savior,
Pastor Carl and Linda Rausch Henkel
