Obituary of Harry R. Bennett

Harry R BENNETT JR, age 79, of Lady Lake, Florida, formerly of Whitewater, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010, at his home. Harry was born on August 29, 1930 in Palmyra, WI, the son of Harry R. and Hazel (Sake) Bennett, Sr. He attended schools in Palmyra and in 1948 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served until 1952. On June 6, 1953 he married Genevieve Wickland. Harry loved sports and was an avid bowler and golfer. He played and umpired softball for many years and raced stock cars from 1953 to 1959. In 1961 he joined the Whitewater Police Department where he served for 13 years. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1995 and moved to Lady Lake, FL in 1997. �Surviving are: Wife: Genevieve Bennett, Lady Lake, Fl, Daughter: Beverly Bennett, Janesville, WI, Granddaughter: Michelle Houghton, Beloit, WI, Great-Grandchildren: Jennifer Houghton, Cody Chidester, Devan Chidester and Elizabeth Chidester, all of Janesville, WI, and a Sister: Irene Creighton, Palmyra, WI. He was preceeded in death by his parents and infant sister. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 11:00AM at the Nitardy Funeral Home Chapel, Whitewater, Wisconsin. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, in Palmyra, Wisconsin. �Friends may call from 4-7PM on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater and after 10AM on Thursday until the services.
