Obituary of Opal Anna Fortin

Opal A FORTIN, age 94, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, formerly of Beaverville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital, in Fort Atkinson, WI. Opal was born in Martinton, Illinois on June 27, 1916, the daughter of Elmer and Gertrude (Varboncouer) Martell. On June 9, 1936, Opal married Paul A. Fortin at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beaverville, Illinois. Opal and Paul farmed for many years in the Beaverville area and she continued to manage the farm after Paul's death. Opal was a very active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beaverville, Illinois and it�s Council for Catholic Women. In 1976, Opal was named St. Mary�s Church Woman of the Year. She served as judge of elections for 25 years and was a member of the Cast Iron Seat Club. She enjoyed games, sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles and cooking. Surviving are: Daughter: Marla (Peter) Goihl, Fort Atkinson, WI, Daughter-in-Law: Linda Fortin, Munster, IN, Five Grandchildren and Ten Great-grandchildren , Sister: Rita Lambert, Effingham, IL, Sisters-in-Law: Dorothy Casino, North Carolina, Madeline Power, Bardley, IL, and Violet Martell, Watseka, IL. Opal is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, her son Keith Fortin, her sister, Ruth and her brother, Art. A Mass of Chrisitian Burial will be held Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 10:00AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Beaverville, Illinois with Father Robert Coleman celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Beaverville, Illinois. Friends may call from 4-7PM on Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home, 214 W. Sheffield, St. Anne, Illinois, and after 9AM on Saturday at the church until mass.
