Obituary of Merle Dean Scott

Merle Dean Scott, 73, of Fort Atkinson, was set free from his earthly body to go be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24. He passed away, surrounded by his family, in his home after a long fought battle against cancer. He was in his favorite spot in the house, on his porch, where he loved to watch the birds out the window. Merle was born in Rice Lake, WI, on July 6, 1937, the son of the late Kenneth and Helen (nee: Lewis) Scott. He was united in marriage to Glenda Dowd in Kenosha, Wisconsin on October 20, 1956. Merle lived with his wife and kids in Kenosha for 16 years while working at American Motors. In 1973 Merle moved his family to East Troy, Wisconsin where he was employed at Timber-Lee Christian Camground and Conference Center, as well as volunteered for the East Troy Fire Department. Many of the young people there referred to him as "dad" because of his love and compassion for them. In 1981 Merle and Glenda moved to Fort Atkinson and Merle worked for the City of Whitewater for 20 years until he retired. Merle was very involved in his church, he loved the children and worked with them in AWANA, he also enjoyed attending sporting events that the children from church were involved with. Merle is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenda; five children, Robin (Jaime) Steffen, Roxanne (Robert) Harris, Ryan (Dawn) Scott, Roger (Lisa) Scott, and Renee (Randy) Siekert; three sisters, Mary (Ted) Lieberherr, Virginia (Morris) Wirth, Ruth (Gary) Hargrave; brother, Walter (Elaine) Scott; as well as 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The memorial service for Merle Scott will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Faith Community Church, W5949 Hackbarth Road, Fort Atkinson, WI. Visitation will be from 10AM until the Noon service on Saturday, June 4 at the church. Merle's remains will rest in the Memorial Garden on the Faith Community Church property.
