Obituary of Laurine Margaret Maas

Margaret Laurine Grandma Laurine Maas went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 25th, 2011. She was born in Platte, South Dakota on April 3rd 1919 the daughter of Wallace and Elizabeth Carter. Her family moved to Rice Lake, Wisconsin where she grew up and graduated from Rice Lake Area High School. Grandma was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Earl Maas, 2 brothers Otis Carter and William Carter, 3 sisters Annis Carter, Mildred Carter (Hill), Jean Carter (McClean), and a grandson, David Maas. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Kamenick (Vaughn), and sons Mark (Lexy), Bob (Linda), along with 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and others who wanted her to be their Grandma. Grandma worked for many years as a secretary for Prophet Foods and then for the School of Accounting at UW Whitewater. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Whitewater for nearly 70 years where she was instrumental in womens ministry, especially as a prayer warrior with other members of the FUMC prayer chain. She was an amazing cook, card player, seamstress, and quilter born into the greatest generation surviving the Great Depression and sending her husband off to war. She truly was a matriarch, not only to her own family, but to people of all walks of life who sought the counsel, wisdom, faith and love from a 92 year old woman of God. Grandma loved travelling to Texas to visit and impart wisdom on her grandchildren and going to baseball parks, football fields, cross country courses, swimming pools, and tracks to watch her grandchildren compete. She enjoyed their concerts, musicals, and milestones. She loved fall color trips to Western Wisconsin, euchre tournaments, and giving cribbage lessons to her grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr.Sanyel, Dr. George, Dr. Detwiler, Dr. Kotney, and their staffs for their care A special thank you to the Ambulatory and Laboratory Staffs of Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital who treated Grandma Laurine like family. Their love, care and support will always be cherished. Like her husband who preceded her, Grandma Laurine had a servants heart and lived her faith daily by focusing on the needs of others. Her wisdom, generosity, spirituality, wit, and sense of humor will be missed by all who were privileged to have known her. Funeral Services will be held at 6PM on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Whitewater, WI with Rev. David Kalas officiating.
