Obituary of Warren Stanley Theune

Warren Stanley THEUNE, age 87, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Hearthstone, (Fairhaven) in Whitewater, WI. Warren was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on January 8, 1924, the son of John M. and Laura (Gabrielse) Theune. Warren served his country in the U.S. Army, Signal Corps during WWII , and duty in Okinawa, Japan. He married Virginia Bull in 1949. Virginia preceded him in death. Warren graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1942. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Education from Whitewater State Teachers College in 1950, his Masters degree in Educational Administration from UW-Madison in 1951, and his Doctorate from Michigan State in Administrative and Educational Services in 1960. Warren devoted his life to education. He began his teaching career as superintendent of the Deerfield Schools. He then returned to Whitewater State Teachers College where he was Assistant Dean and Director of Student Teaching. He worked in that capacity for twenty one years. He was proud of establishing the First Year Teacher Program that allows beginning teachers to work closely with a local school mentor during their first year. This program has earned national recognition.and continues to be used today. He had a passion for gardening, and a special talent for growing roses. He also enjoyed travel, woodworking, photography and sports, particularly the Packers. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Whitewater, WI. Warren touched the lives of all who knew him and will always hold a special place in our hearts. He will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren and all who knew him. Surviving are: Children: Gerald (Susan) Theune, Whitewater, WI, Gregg Theune, Waukesha, WI, Carolyn (Ron) Brady, Lake Oswego, OR, and Thomas (Sharon) Theune, Colorado Springs, CO, Grandchildren: Ryan (Jenny) Theune, Sarah (Chris) Cromos, Megan Theune, Adam, Daniel, & Michael Brady and Benjamin and Lauren Theune. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter-in-law Cindy Theune and brothers, Leslie and Oliver. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 11:30AM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Whitewater, Wisconsin. Friends may call after 10AM on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the church until the services.
