Obituary of Douglas Laing Meikle

Douglas Laing MEIKLE, age 88, of Whitewater, Wisconsin, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 13, 2011. Douglas was born in Dundee, Scotland on December 17, 1922, the son of James L. and Brice (Cleghorn) Meikle. He served four years in the Canadian Royal Air Force. He received a Bachelor of Science degree at Carleton College, Canada and a PH-D degree from Indiana University. Douglas was a Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for 25 years prior to his retirement. On February 7, 1967, Douglas married Mary Stefancin in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. Doug and Mary traveled widely throughout five continents. Doug was an avid reader, a philanthopist who loved classical music, and enjoyed gardening. Surviving are: Wife: Mary Meikle, Whitewater, WI, Son: Doug Meikle, Green Bay, WI, Daughter: Anne E. (Thomas) Ploessl, Waunakee, WI, Two Grandsons: Peter Meikle, Green Bay, WI, and Eric (Erica) Meikle, Golden , CO, Great-Granddaughter: Elise Meikle, Golden, CO, and cousins and friends. Friends may call at an open house to celebrate Doug�s life from 12 to 4PM on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the family home, 618 Foxglove Lane, Whitewater, Wisconsin.
