Obituary of Anne Elizabeth Baldwin

Anne Elizabeth Wilfong Baldwin, age 76, of Whitewater, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Anne was born in Newton, North Carolina on January 31, 1935, the daughter of William and Lettie (Saunders) Wilfong. She graduated from Claremont Central-Hickory High School and received degrees in French and English from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina. She also did a year of graduate work in France at the University of Paris. Anne taught for one year at St. Stevens High School in Hickory, NC, one year as a teacher's assistant at the University of Illinois for 5-6 years and she served as associate professor of English at UW-Whitewater. Anne worked as copy editor and technical writer for Sandra Pakin and Associates in Chicago for several years. On October 26, 1962, Anne married William W. Baldwin in Champaign, Illinois. William preceded her in death in 2005. Anne was the recipient of a Rotary Scholarship to study in France and a recipient of the Woodrow Wilson Scholarship to the University of Illinois. She was an avid reader. Anne was proceeded in death by her mother, Lettie Saunders Wilfong and father, William (Bill) W. Wilfong Sr. She is survived by her sisters, Frances Wilfong-Huffman and her husband, Jerry Huffman of Sherrills Ford, NC and Patricia Wilfong-Triplett and Alan Anton of Hickory, NC and a brother, William (Bill) W. Wilfong, Jr. and his wife Kathryn Pruitt-Brun of Missouri City, Texas and a step-daughter, Anna Kathleen Baldwin. She is further survived by many nephews, nieces and other relatives and her friend(s) like Mitchum Senior, a student at Whitewater who is from Jamaica. Family services and burial will be held at a later date in Cuthbert, GA.
