I once was a committee member where many speakers had powerfully loud voices. One member listened carefully and spoke only when he had something pertinent to convey. And when he spoke, he spoke softly. All around the table, the murmuring ceased, that not a word from this person was missed, lest it be lost. The power of his words were in what he said; not in how loudly he spoke. Not a person interrupted. When he had finished, everyone in the room realized that his few soft words carried more weight and meaning than all of their loud voices combined.
Emily, that person is your uncle Phil. I did not know your father, but any relative of Phil's is a friend of mine. As a tear can be a mark of power, a soft, reasoning voice can be a mark of strength.

Thank you everyone for all the kind words, and support. It brings us great peace to know how much our Dad was loved and will be missed.
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief... and unspeakable love." -- Washington Irving

My sympathy to the family of Tom. One of the disadvantages of living in Arizona is that I cannot be there for the families of those that I know when they lose a loved one. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Words don't seem to mean much when you've lost someone you love, but we hope you, Tom's family, can feel how much we all care for you and feel our arms around you.
Many good times were had with Tom. He was a one-of-a-kind guy, so special. He will be missed.
With love, Sharon and Lee.

Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We have been friends of Phil's since the 1970's and our bicycling days. Your family's pictures on Facebook show me people that hang together when things get tough. Be strong! Peace...

Tom, you've been my friend since childhood. Hanging out at the lake, pinball at Shore Place, Friday night movies in the park, and jamming with your bands. So many memories... too many to list. I'm going to miss you. But I bet there is one heck of a band in Heaven. My heart goes out to your daughters, they lost a wonderful father. See you again someday.
