Obituary of Peter Chester

Peter Chester, age 88, of Whitewater, Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, February 04, 2012 at his home. Peter was born in Watford, England on October 6, 1923, the son of Arthur and Aimee (Gorton) Chester. In 1941, he enlisted in the British Army. He was a member of an artillery unit active in Europe during WWII. After his discharge in 1946 as a lieutenant, Peter returned to England. He attended Southampton University, where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. Peter emigrated to the United States in 1950 settling in the Chicago area. He was employed by a major road building company, where he was a field superintendent and consultant until his retirement in 1986. Peter was an avid reader and golfer. He was a Friend of the Library and a member of the Whitewater Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Ann and their children: Randy (Sue) Chester, Rockford, IL, Gillian (Peter) Culp, Saint Ymez, CA, Wendy Chester, Los Angeles, CA, Kathi Sampson, Madison, WI, Bob (Terri) Chatel, Hoffman Estates, IL, and Tom (Lauren) Chatel, Arlington Heights, IL, Twelve grandchildren and Five great-grandchildren. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Kathleen, and a son Cameron. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, February 08, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the Nitardy Funeral Homes, Whitewater,WI with Rev. Dr. Carroll Olm officiating. Friends may call after 10AM on Wednesday at the funeral home until the time of the services.
