Obituary of Phyllis Louise Mack

Phyllis Louise Mack, 83, left her earthly home to be in heaven on Monday, February 20th, 2012. With her faithful husband of 62 years at her side, she died peacefully in her own bed. Phyllis was born on August 12th, 1928, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth Redding of Palmyra, Wisconsin. She graduated from Palmyra High School in 1946 and studied stenography in Milwaukee for six months after that. She moved to Madison and worked for the United States Armed Forces Institute from 1947-1949. Phyllis married Lloyd Charles Mack on August 20th, 1949. They resided together on Lloyds family farm from 1949 until 1985 when Lloyd retired from farming. Phyllis was a wonderful farm wife. She managed all the household chores and occasionally helped Lloyd in the fields, eventually rearing four children as well. After marriage, Phyllis was a dedicated member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. She was a charter member of St. Pauls Evening Altar Guild formed in 1950 and remained an active member of that group until she died. Phyllis loved flowers and after her four children were born, she worked part-time at The Little Flower Shop in Fort Atkinson and Southgate Floral in Jefferson. She also enjoyed bowling and golfing with her husband. Both were long-time members of Koshkonong Mounds Country Club. While she was still active, she loved her Tuesday womens golf days at the Mounds and Sunday afternoon rounds with Lloyd and the family. She also loved playing cards with family and friends, even though it caused an occasional disagreement with Lloyd, her euchre partner. More than anything else, Phyllis loved watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports and other activities at St. Pauls Lutheran School, Holy Cross Lutheran School, Lakeside Lutheran High School, Luther Preparatory School, Fort High School and Wisconsin Lutheran College. She spent countless hours at football, basketball and baseball games, volleyball and golf matches and various other school programs and performances. Besides her faithful husband, Phyllis is survived by daughter Cindy (Wayne) Schultz, son David (Pam) Mack, daughter Laurie Griedl all of Fort Atkinson, and daughter Lisa (Dan) Madson of Destin, Florida; grandchildren Patrick Rick Schultz, David (Amanda) Schultz, Jenni (Wade) Staude, Erin (Andy) Nelson, Heather (Keith) Moritz, Jason Griedl (fiance Alison Townsend), Kim (Andy) Kimball, Megan Griedl (fiance Steven Schwab), Rachel (Jake) Zarling, Jonathan Madson (fiance Jorgi Brunie), and Kyle Madson (girlfriend Leanna Miller); great-grandchildren Tyla and Gabe Staude, Noah, Christian and Naomi Schultz, Alyssa Nelson, Vaida Moritz, Ava and Aiden Kimball and soon-to-be great-grandchildren Sam Schwab and Sofia and Gianna Brunie. She is also survived by a sister Evelyn Krause of Sun Prairie, a sister-in-law Betsy Redding of Redding, CA, godchildren: Kris Strohm, Sue Cook, Shari Holston, Tami Waggoner, and Julie McDonald, as well as many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Ruth Redding and her two brothers, Donald of Glen Ivy, CA, and Gordon, of Redding, California. More than anything else, Phyllis loved when her family gathered together in her home during the holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Mothers Day were her favorites. She loved making and serving all her special foods; she loved buying Christmas gifts for all her kids and grandkids, and she loved it when her family filled five pews at St. Pauls Christmas Eve service. She got a special kick out of her nickname G-Mack and always laughed when her grandkids called her that. She was a dedicated, faithful wife and mother; loving grandmother and great-grandmother, special friend to many and most importantly, a humble servant of her Savior, Jesus Christ. Blessed be her memory. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 24th, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, 301 S. High Street, Fort Atkinson. Revs. Michael Duncan and Paul Scharrer will serve as co-officiates at the service. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be held at St. Pauls on Thursday, February 23rd, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday until the time of service. Her husband and family would like memorials directed to one of three organizations: St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson, Lakeside Lutheran High School in Lake Mills or Rainbow Hospice. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Nitardy Funeral Home.
