Obituary of Roger Verne Wiley

Roger Wiley The vice president of Dixie Grinders, Roger Verne Wiley of Guntersville, AL, formerly of Whitewater, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Shepherd's Cove Hospice after a lengthy illness. He was 79. Mr. Wiley moved to Guntersville from Wisconsin in 1984 when he, Gene Grant, and Bill Sellnow started Dixie Grinders, a business that manufactures industrial grade meat grinders. He was in the Army during the Korean War, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He was scheduled to go to Korea when the war ended. It was during this time that he married his high school sweetheart Esther Hartmann. They were wed fifty-eight years ago on September 26, 1953. He was Scout Master of Troop 173 in his native Wisconsin for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and going to tractor shows, but his work was his main interest. He remained active in the company up until his illness. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Albertville, the American Legion and the Forty and Eight. He is survived by his wife, Esther of Guntersville; 2 sons, Bradley C. Wiley (Janice) and Steven Lynn Wiley Sr. (Lori), both of Albertville; 2 sisters Betty Olsen of Denver, Colorado, and Harriet Waite (Loren) of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; a brother-in-law, Jerry Hartman (Lavona) of Whitewater; 6 grandchildren, Adam Wiley (Carolyn), Steven Wiley Jr. (Tina); Meghan Houston (Sean), Erin Lyons (Joey), Ian Wiley (Ulrike), and Christine Elizabeth Wiley; 6 great-grandchildren, Jennifer Ann, Julius, Keilan, George, Robert, and Alice; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Verne and Lura Chesney Wiley, a sister, Jeanette, and a brother, Gordon. Services will be held in Whitewater at the First English Lutheran Church, on Monday, March 26, 2012. Visitation will be from 9:00AM until time of service at 11:00AM with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater is assisting the family.
