Obituary of Daniel C. Lenz

Daniel C. Lenz, age 91, of Fort Atkinson, WI passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at his home. Daniel was born in the Town of Oakland, Wisconsin on August 7, 1920, the son of Charles and Rosa (Polenski) Lenz. He attended Oakland Country School and the Fort Atkinson Public School. Dan served his country in the US Army from 1942 until 1946, seeing duty in Florida, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and France. He served as a PFC Military Policeman, Scout, Motor pool Driver and CPL Squad Leader. On July 1, 1947, Dan married June Bickle. June preceded him in death on May 17, 2007. Dan worked at Thomas Industries in Fort Atkinson for 19 years, including working in the model shop for the Defense department on the Sparrow Missiles. He then worked for Uncle Josh Bait Company in Fort Atkinson before retiring in 1985. Dan also was a "Jack of All Trades." From carpentry to painting or repairing machinery, he could do it all. He was a perfectionist in whatever he set out to do, and if he couldn't find a particular part for a project, he would just make one. Dan was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Fort Atkinson where he served on the Church Vestry for many years. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a member of the Fort Atkinson Paul Frank Florine American Legion Post #166 and served as a Boy Scout Leader. Surviving are his children: Lori (Mark Zastrow) Paske, Fort Atkinson, WI, and Daniel Lenz both of Fort Atkinson, granddaughter: Sarah Paske, and a sister Adella Mepham. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Corliss Lenz and Charles (Elayne) Lenz Jr. and sisters: Goldie (Jasper) Vetrono, Irene Bohnsack, and Delores (Charles) Snodie. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Fort Atkinson,WI with Father Andrew Hanyzewski and Father Charles Payson co-officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. Visitation will be after 10AM on Saturday at the church until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial to St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
