Obituary of Betty Jane Newcomb

Betty Jane Newcomb, age 85, of Fort Atkinson, WI passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Fairhaven in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Betty was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 17, 1927, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Scholl) Lemke. Betty was adopted by John and H. Floette (Pleasandt) Hartman in January 1928. She moved to the Fort Atkinson area in 1931. Betty was a graduate of Fort Atkinson High School Class of 1945. On July 15, 1945, Betty married Byron "Barney" E. Bullock in Fort Atkinson. Byron preceded her in death on May 21, 1993. Betty married Myron "Mike" Newcomb on August 6, 1994 in Fort Atkinson. Betty and Barney owned and operated the Jefferson County Town and Country Reporter Newspaper. Betty also was the executive secretary for the Fort Atkinson Chamber of Commerce for 21 years. Betty was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson, WI. She was a past president of the Fort Atkinson Women's Club, and a past board member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and served as a Sunday School Teacher. Betty enjoyed gardening and reading. Surviving are: Her Husband: Mike Newcomb, Fort Atkinson, WI, Daughters: Bonnie Sue Smith, Lewisville, TX and Rebecca "Becky" Jane (Dan) Schultz, Lake Mills, WI, Step Children: Jeffrey Lyn (Virginia) Newcomb, Fort Atkinson, WI, Scot Ryan Newcomb, Fort Atkinson, WI, and Peter Curtis (Pamela) Newcomb, Jefferson, WI., Sister: Margaret Ann "Dolly" Jackson, Whitewater, WI, Sister-in-Law: Annette Hartman, Half-Sister: Jeanne Cox, Des Plains, IL, Half-Brother: Dennis (Cathy) Bergeron, Waterloo, WI, Five Grandchildren, Eight Great-grandchildren, One Great-great-Grandchild, Seven Step-Grandchildren, Six Step-Great grandchildren and numerous additional relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Randy Lynn Sahr, brother John Robert Hartman, and Brother-In-Law; Lyle Jackson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, at 12:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson,WI with Father Brian Wilk and Father Bill Nolan co-celebrating. Following cremation, interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin at a later date. Friends may call from 5-8PM on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson with the parish rosary at 8PM and after 11AM on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the church until the time of the Mass.
