Obituary of Martha Louise Taggart

DEERFIELD Martha Taggart, age 89, died on August 24, 2012, peacefully at home. Born in Avilla, Indiana, she was the sixth child of Herman (Maude Brown) Kemerly. Growing up she was active in the Youth Groups of the Methodist Church. Martha graduated from Avilla High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1941. During WWII, she worked for the United States Navy in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She married Donald Taggart, on his furlough, in Kendallville, Indiana, November 19, 1942. They were together for two days and did not see each other again for more than three years. They had one daughter, Becky Taggart Redmond (Deerfield/Cambridge). For 51 years, their home was in Dundee, Illinois, before moving to Wisconsin. Martha was a stay-at-home Mom for 19 years and then worked for Hills-McCanna/Rockwell International for 22 years as Supervisor in the Accounting Department, retiring in 1986. Martha was an avid reader, a seamstress, enjoyed her computer and adding to her insect collection. Surviving is her daughter, plus a sister-in-law, Mary (Vernon) Kemerly, numerous nieces and nephews, many email friends and several very dear friends. Preceding her in death was her husband of 63 years; also two sisters, Frances (Robert) Winkler and Ruth (Willard) Miller and five brothers, Paul, Ralph, Richard, Donald, and Vernon Kemerly. In honoring her wishes, no services will be held. Memorial donations should be made to Rainbow Hospice Foundation, 147 W.
