Obituary of Robert Gary, Waase Giizhik

Robert Gary Stone Jr, Waase Giizhik, (The Brightest Day), age 68, of Whitewater, Wisconsin passed over to the Spirit World on Friday, September 21, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family after a tenuous battle with Neuroendocrine Cancer, which he fought with elegance and grace in true warrior fashion. Robert was a First Nations, Ojibwa from the Bad River Indian Reservation. He was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on February 7, 1944, the son of Robert Gary and Pearl (Moore) Stone Sr. He graduated from Ashland High School. On June 15, 2002, Robert married Nancy Dade in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Robert was an Elder, Spiritualist, and Sun Dancer. He retired after working 30 years with Local Union #2337 at Gillens as a pile driver, cement finisher, and welder. Robert's work can be enjoyed by all as he helped construct such places as, The Bradley Center, Miller Park, and the Marquette Interchange. Robert was a member of the Friends of the Effigy Mounds. Surviving are: Wife: Nancy-Dade Stone, Whitewater, WI, Children: Robert Stone, Milwaukee, WI, Gary Allen Stone, Debbie Ann Stone, and Kim Marie Stone, Step-Children: Alex Dade and Nick Dade both of Whitewater, WI, Granddaughter: Jaslyn, Siblings: Donna Stone, Milwaukee, WI, Vernon Stone , Odanah, WI, Denise Brown, Milwaukee, WI, Patricia (Don) Neveaux, Odanah, WI, Darlene (Lee) Hafeman, Odanah, WI, and Sandra (Bill) Brandt, Milwaukee, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Gene and George. Traditional Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 24, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the Nitardy Funeral Home, 550 N. Newcomb Street, Whitewater,WI. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Whitewater, Wisconsin. Friends may call from 6-9PM on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at the Nitardy Funeral Home, Whitewater, WI, and from 9-11AM on Monday, September 24, 2012 until the services.
